Note: On 1 September 2024, JTL introduced new editions that bundle most of the previous individual services into different packages. In order for you to continue working as smoothly as possible, existing customers were automatically switched to the package configuration that best matched their existing contract. The individual packages differ in terms of limitations and/or range of functions. Therefore, some of the features described in the JTL-Guide may not be available to you as part of your booked JTL edition. You can change your package configuration in your JTL customer account. Find out more about the new editions and packages here. Check our FAQ for frequently asked questions about the product editions.
Setting the cache
Your task/initial situation
With the help of the cache, you can significantly speed up the loading of your online shop from the second visit onwards. In JTL-Shop, you can set exactly which areas should be reloaded on every visit.
Activating the cache
By default, the JTL-Shop cache is deactivated. That means you have to activate it first.
- In the back end of JTL-Shop, go to System > Cache. This will take you to the Cache page.
- Switch to the Settings tab.
- Set the option Enable object cache to Yes.
- Save the page. The changes will now be applied.
Deactivating the cache for individual object types
You can now individually define for which type of objects the cache is to be used.
- Switch to the Administration tab. You can see that the cache is initially activated for all types.
- Select the types for which you want to deactivate the cache by activating the check box in front of the type.
- Select Disable from the Action drop-down menu and click Send. The selected object types are now deactivated.
Please note: The options set here are kept permanently. This means that if you globally switch off caching and then reactivate it, the same object types are still active.
Changing the caching method
Please note: To change the caching method, you may need the help of your server administrator.
You can adjust the caching method used by JTL Shop. This step is not necessary but can lead to a better performance of JTL-Shop.
- Switch to the Settings tab.
- Under Method, select the method you want to use.
Please note: Most methods require server-side support. You may need to install and activate a PHP extension for these methods first. If necessary, contact your server administrator, who can do this for you.
Note on “Advanced settings”: You can use the Show advanced settings button to enter further details about the port and host for the Redis and Memcache(d) methods. You can also activate debugging and select the debug method.
Testing and comparing methods
You can have the individual methods compared with each other.
- Switch to the Benchmark tab.
- Under Methods, select the methods that are to be compared with each other. You can activate more than one method by holding down the Ctrl key.
- Click on Start benchmark. You will now receive information on the speeds of the individual methods.
Please note: These are only rough values. In practice, a different method may turn out to be better even though it delivers worse values in the benchmark.
