    Mobile PackingBench: example scenarios

The Mobile PackingBench shipping process allows you to pick and pack your shipments directly at the storage location in a single step. On this page we will present you with scenarios for which the Mobile PackingBench is particularly suitable. We will also show you how to make goods issue even more efficient.

Scenario 1: Direct shipments of large and heavy goods

    Your task/initial situation

Among other items, you also sell washing machines, which are usually ordered as single items by your customers. The washing machines in your warehouse are already packaged and waiting to be shipped. You use a forklift truck to pick up the washing machine in your warehouse. After picking, you do not want to take the washing machine to a packing bench first to print the shipping documents and the shipping label. You therefore use a mobile station on which you installed a tablet, a scanner and a printer. The station can be attached to the forklift truck. On the truck, you also store envelopes for the shipping documents, which can be attached to the washing machine.

    Picking items

    1. Create a pick list using a suitably configured template. This pick list can contain any number of sales orders with exactly one item, e.g. a washing machine.
    2. Go to the storage location specified on the pick list and scan the pick list and item label of the washing machine. The shipping documents and the shipping label are printed automatically.
    3. Attach the shipping documents and the shipping label to the washing machine.
    4. Transport the washing machine to the loading site.
    5. Goods issue is complete. You can now continue with the next sales order.

Scenario 2: Direct shipping by picking to the packing cart of a shipping service provider

    Your task/initial situation

You wish to speed up your goods issue processes for sales orders that only contain a single item or several closely stored items. You also want to reduce the required process steps. You therefore use a packing cart of your shipping service provider for picking, to which you have attached a portable device containing the hardware needed for the Mobile PackingBench process. During route-optimised picking, the items are then made ready for shipping directly on the packing cart. Afterwards, the packing cart can be handed to the shipping service provider without further detours.
The process is also highly relevant for sales orders with several line items if the storage section in which picking takes place is rather small and items are stored close to each other.
As picking is performed per sales order, the process is ill-suited for sales orders with many line items, for picking in large warehouses or storage sections, or when the distance between items is too great. This would only lead to unnecessary legwork. For larger warehouses or storage spaces, the processes of collective picking with EazyShipping, Shipping boxes or Pick-to-box are preferable.

    Picking items

    1. Create a pick list using a suitably configured template.
The pick list will contain several sales orders. Each sales order contains only a single item.
    2. Go to the first storage location specified on the pick list and scan the respective pick list and item label. The shipping documents and the shipping label are printed automatically.
    3. If necessary, pack the item and the shipping documents and attach the shipping label.
    4. Go to the next storage location and scan and pack the item. The pick list will now lead you through the warehouse on short paths until all sales orders have been picked.
    5. Goods issue is complete. You can now continue with the next packing cart.

    Scenario 3: Picking fast-moving items

    Your task/initial situation

On the occasion of the FIFA World Cup, you sell fan packages or sets that consist of different small items, which are stored as a bill of materials in JTL-Wawi. Every day, you receive hundreds of sales orders with the same items. The items are stored in shelfs in close proximity to a stationary packing bench. With the Mobile Packing Bench process, you can now pick sales orders one after the other and pack them immediately, thus completing a large number of sales orders without long walking distances.

    Picking items

    1. Create a pick list using a suitably configured template.
The pick list can contain several sales orders with multiple items.
    2. Pick the first sales order, ideally by taking the item off the shelf next to the packing bench, scan the item and put it directly in the shipping box.
    3. Once you have scanned the last item of a sales order, the shipping documents and the shipping label are printed automatically. The package can now be sealed.
    4. Continue with the next sales order until you have completed the pick list.

Scenario 4: Picking small items from small warehouses/storage sections

    Your task/initial situation

You sell many, very small items stored in the shelfs surrounding your packing bench. You can reach them all with just a few steps. The packing bench is either a stationary or pivotable model. With a stationary packing bench, the tablet/monitor, scanner and printer should be placed on a pivotable surface. The items can also be located in non-see-through drawers or boxes and do not have to be individually labelled as long as there is a scannable label at the storage location.

    Picking items

    1. Create a pick list using a suitably configured template.
The pick list can contain several sales orders with multiple items.
    2. Pick your items, ideally by taking the item off the shelf next to the packing bench, scan the item and put it directly in the shipping box.
    3. Once you have scanned the last item of a sales order, the shipping documents and the shipping label are printed automatically. The package can now be sealed.
    4. Continue with the next sales order until you have completed the pick list.
