    Detailed description: Settings: Form settings

On this page, you will find a detailed description of the functions on the Settings: Form settings page. You can reach this page in the back end of JTL-Shop via View > Standard views > Registration. It includes the areas Create customer account/Order without registration, Shipping address, VAT identification number and Forgot password.

Pane: Create customer account/Order without registration

Note: Name, email address, street, house number, postal code, city and country cannot be deactivated and are mandatory fields.

Prompt academic title/ title / company name / company 2 / address 2 / mobile phone number / fax number / phone number / website address / date of birth / federal state:

For each setting, choose from the following options:

    • Yes, optional: Your customers can choose whether they would like to complete the field.
    • Yes, mandatory: Your customers have to fill out the field to complete the registration and order processes.
    • No: The field is not displayed.
Note: In accordance with the principles of gender-neutral language, we recommend to either make the title an optional field or not prompt the title at all.

Prompt first name: Choose either Yes, mandatory or Yes, optional.

Minimum length for password: Specify the minimum number of characters a customer password must have. If your customer enters a shorter password, it will be rejected. A strong password has at least 8 characters.

Preselected country: Select which country is preselected by default when creating a customer account or an order. Enter the two-digit ISO country code, e.g. GB for Great Britain, IE for Ireland, or US for the United States of America.

Note: If a country is to be displayed in the country list, you must first create a shipping method with which it is possible to send goods to that country. As an alternative, you can also deactivate the option Offer only countries with shipping method for selection. For more information on this topic, click here: Setting up shipping methods.

Prompt federal state: Select whether your customers will be asked for the federal state of the destination country if there are states or similar structures in the destination country (e.g. states of the USA, cantons of Switzerland, departments of France). If you make this field mandatory, your customers have to pick a state from a list. Some payment providers require a specification of state for specific countries. This is true, for example, for PayPal with shipments to the USA or Canada.

Check city for numbers: Select whether the city names entered by the customer should be checked for numbers. Numbers may occur in this field, for example, if the customer has confused the fields City and Postal code. If this is the case, customers receive an error message and have to correct their input.

Check name for numbers: Select whether the names entered by the customer should be checked for numbers. If this is the case, customers receive an error message and have to correct their input.

Check time needed for completion: If you enable this option, JTL-Shop checks whether your customer needed at least 5 seconds to complete the details. This filters out bots completing the details automatically. If your customers use browser add-ons that automatically complete the fields, a very short completion time might lead to them being blocked.

Check email DNS: If you enable this option, a check is run to determine whether the domain of the email address exists. Example: If your customer enters jane.smith@smith-sporting-goods.com, the JTL-Shop checks whether smith-sporting-goods.com is a legit domain. The check does not verify the actual email address.

Offer only countries with shipping method for selection: Select whether all countries or only countries with shipping methods are to be displayed as a selection option in the forms. If you select Yes, only available countries, only countries for which at least one shipping method has been set up will be displayed. If you activate the option Show all countries, it may happen that customers indicate a country for the shipping address that you do not ship to. Consequently, no shipping method will be shown to your customers. This option only affects countries in shipping addresses. For billing addresses, customers can select any country.

Check postal codes: If you activate this option, JTL-Shop checks whether the postal code entered by the customer matches the specified location. If this is not the case, customers receive an error message. However, they can choose to proceed with the entered details or correct the original ones.

Enable spam protection: Select whether you want to enable spam protection when creating customer accounts. For this, Google reCAPTCHA must be set up for JTL-Shop. For more information on this topic, click here: Setting up spam protection with Google reCAPTCHA.

Show CAPTCHA after X unsuccessful login attempts: Specify how many attempts a customer has to log in before a CAPTCHA appears. This setting makes it more difficult for hackers to hack a customer account using bots.

    Pane: Shipping address

Prompt title / academic title / company name / company 2 / address 2 / federal state / phone number / email address / mobile phone number/ fax number:

For each setting, choose from the following options:

    • Yes, mandatory: Your customers have to fill out the field to complete the registration and order processes.
    • No: The field is not displayed.

Preselected country: Select the country that will be preselected as the destination country by default. Enter the two-digit ISO country code, e.g. GB for Great Britain, IE for Ireland, or US for the United States of America.

Note: If a country is to be displayed in the country list, you must first create a shipping method with which it is possible to send goods to that country. For more information on this topic, click here: Setting up shipping methods.

    Pane: VAT identification number

VAT ID of online shop: Enter your own VAT ID. To verify the VAT IDs entered by customers, you need to enter your own VAT ID first.

Prompt VAT ID: Specify whether JTL-Shop should query your customers’ VAT ID. Select one of the following options: Yes, optional, Yes, mandatory, and No from the options.

Enable VAT identification number check by VIES system: Select here whether you want to activate the verification of the VAT IDs via the VAT information exchange system (VIES) of the European Commission. For this, the option Prompt company name must be set to Yes and your own VAT ID must be entered into VAT ID of online shop.

Customer registration requires VIES confirmation: Select whether customers can only register if a VIES confirmation is present. Should the relevant services not be accessible for some reason, no registrations can be carried out.

    Pane: Forgot password
