Setting up the blog in JTL-Shop

    Your task/initial situation

You do not only want to sell items in your online shop but also communicate regular news to your customers. For this purpose, JTL-Shop provides a blog system with the help of which various authors can write blog posts that you can then integrate into JTL-Shop.

    Setting up a blog

    1. In the back end of JTL-Shop, go to Marketing > Promotions > Blog posts to open the Blog page.
    2. Click on the Settings tab.
    3. Make all necessary settings.

Use blog: This option is activated by default and should remain so if you want to display the blog in JTL-Shop.

Allow comments on blog posts: Here you can define whether page visitors are generally allowed to write comments on blog posts.

Number of blog posts in overview: Here you can limit the number of blog posts in the blog post overview. Please enter a number. The number 0 means that all blog posts are displayed.

Number of blog posts on homepage: Here you can limit the number of blog posts displayed on your homepage. Please enter a number. The number 0 means that all blog posts are displayed.

Number of months/categories in the box: Here you determine how many months are to be displayed in the Blog (monthly overview) box or categories are to be displayed in the Blog (category overview) box. Enter a value into the text field. The value 0 means that all months/categories are displayed.

Activate comments: By activating this option, you have the possibility to check and edit comments written by customers before you release the comments.

Number of comments per page: Specify the maximum number of comments allowed per page.

Maximum number of comments per post: Specify the maximum number of comments a user can add to a blog post. 0 means that there is no limit.

Show blog categories under blog: Specify whether to display the blog categories under a selected blog post.

Prefix for monthly overview: Here you specify per language which prefix is to be used in URLs for the monthly overview.

    1. Save the settings.

    Writing a blog post

    1. Switch to the Posts tab.
    2. Then click Create new post.
    3. Enter the blog post.

Customer group: Select here which customer groups may read the blog post. Multiple selection is possible.

Category: Specify the category in which the blog post is to be filed. Categorisation allows you to group similar blog posts under one umbrella term. This way, you and your customers get a better overview and easier navigation of your blog posts.

Created on: Here you specify which date should be displayed for the blog post.

Preview: Here you can upload an image that will be used as a thumbnail for the blog post.

Available images: Here you can upload one or more images that can be used in the blog post.

Next to the image you will also find the link to include the image for the editor; an example syntax would be $#Image1#$.

Images help to emphasise the message of your blog post and usually make customers want to read it because it is more visually appealing.

You can also use the images as links to your items.

Language: Here you select the language in which the blog entry is to be displayed.

    Meta/SEO

Enter the Headline under which this blog post will be found and specify an SEO link name for the post. If the SEO text field is left blank, it is automatically generated based on the headline.

Into Text, enter the text of your blog post.

    2. Then click Create new category. The page Category opens.
    3. Enter all data relevant for the category.

Parent category: Enter here which category should be above the newly created category. If the category is to be at the highest level, select the Main category setting.

Category sorting: Enter here where the category should be located. The lower the number entered, the higher up the category will be displayed.

Active: Specify here whether the category is to be displayed.

Preview: Here you can select an image to be displayed as a preview image for the category.

Language: Here you select the language for the category.
