    Detailed description of all options

Use full-text search: Specify which search should be used. You can choose between the options Use default search, Use full-text search and Full-text search (Boolean mode).

    • Use default search: The default search searches for individual words or word components. Therefore, short search terms are also possible. In addition, numbers and arithmetic operators (+,-) are taken into account during the search. A disadvantage of the default search is that search terms consisting of several different words cannot be searched across fields. They must be in the same field to be found, for example, in the item name or in the description. The search is carried out without search priority and can therefore take a long time for new search terms or long texts. In addition, neither word separators nor semantics are taken into account, i.e. the search for “noble steel” would also find “training wheels”. If your customers mainly search for short terms, tags or numbers (e.g. spare part numbers or proper names), the default search offers certain advantages. Accordingly, only the tag fields (item name, SKU, GTIN, ISBN, etc.) should be activated for the search by assigning them a search priority.  Searching description texts yields many irrelevant results.
    • Use full-text search: The full-text search only searches for whole words and not for word components. The search is carried out via a search priority. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for online shops with large product ranges and long description texts, as it is significantly faster and achieves more accurate results than the default search. In addition, searching is possible across fields, i.e. the search terms are also found if they are located in different fields. A disadvantage of the full-text search is that searching for numbers or arithmetic operators (+,-) is not possible. In addition, the word stem is not taken into account during the search, i.e. the search for “pillow” would not display the item “Pink pillowcase”, for example. The full-text search is particularly suitable if your customers predominantly search for non-specific properties or colours that occur mainly in description texts. With the Boolean mode, a higher number of results can be achieved, since word components are also taken into account. Pure tag or number fields (ISBN, GTIN, etc.) are irrelevant in the full-text search and should be deactivated for the search by assigning them the search priority 0.
    • Full-text search (Boolean mode): If the Boolean mode is selected, additional word components are found that are at the beginning of a word. When entering the search term “Variation”, for example, “Variation combination” will also be found. In addition, special characters and operators can be used in the search, for example AND, to obtain only search results that contain the two search terms connected by AND, or the minus sign (-), which only displays results that do not contain the word following the minus. Attention: This can lead to undesirable effects if, for example, your SKUs contain a minus and are thus excluded from the search!

Search priority of item name / search terms of an item / SKU / brief item description / item description/ GTIN / ISBN / MPN / item note: Here you define the fields that are searched for the search terms and where to start. The smaller the number entered, the earlier the field is searched. The value “0” causes a field not to be searched.

The larger the value entered, the higher up the sorting option is displayed. The value “0” means that the sorting option is not displayed.
