Detailed description of all options
There are two different views of the dialogue box Creating and editing characteristics and characteristic values, depending on whether you are at characteristic or characteristic value level.
Creating and editing characteristics
When you are at the characteristic level, the dialogue box looks like this:
Pane A: All characteristics
Search: If you have created a variety of different characteristics, you can enter the name of a characteristic or characteristic value in this search field to find it more easily.
List of all characteristics: In this overview, you can see all characteristics that have been created in JTL-Wawi, including their characteristic values.
Sort characteristics alphabetically: Activate this check box to sort the created characteristics alphabetically.
Create characteristic: Click this button to add a new characteristic to the list of all characteristics. You can define the characteristic in more detail in the panes Details and Groups.
Create value: Click on this button to add a value to the selected characteristic. This changes the view of the dialogue box.
Delete selected: Select a characteristic or value and click this button to remove it.
Arrow up/down: Select an entry and click the up or down arrow button to change the order. The order in JTL-Wawi is copied by JTL-Shop. For example, if you want a characteristic to be displayed higher up in JTL-Shop, you have to move it up in this pane in JTL-Wawi.
Pane B: Properties - Characteristic
Name: Enter the name of the characteristic here. To do this, double-click on the entry in the Value column. If you maintain several languages in JTL-Wawi, you can enter the name in each individual language.
Sort values alphabetically: Activate this check box to sort alphabetically the characteristic values of the respective characteristic.
Use as item characteristic on eBay: Activate this check box to include the characteristic when transferring an item to eBay.
Use as an item characteristic in the online shop: Activate this check box to transfer the characteristic when transferring an item to an online shop.
Multiple selection: Activate this check box to allow visitors of your online shop to select multiple values. This feature is only available in JTL-Shop version 4.06 or higher.
Global characteristic (in JTL-Shop 3): Activate this check box to mark the selected characteristic as global. This makes it possible to show the characteristic and its values as a navigation aid.
Display values of this characteristic as: Use this drop-down menu to determine how the values of this characteristic are displayed in JTL-Shop.
Image: Here you can drag & drop or use the Import button to save a picture that will be used for the characteristic.
Pane C: Groups
You can subdivide your characteristics into different groups that make it easier to access specific related characteristics. You can, for example, form groups of characteristics for each of your product groups and group all characteristics belonging to the area “clothing” or “electronics”.
Creating and editing characteristic values
If you are at the characteristic value level, the dialogue box looks like this:
Pane A: All characteristics
This pane is identical to the All characteristics pane at the characteristics level.
Pane B: Define characteristic values
Language: In this drop-down menu, choose between the languages you maintain in JTL-Wawi.
Copy texts from: Click on this button to copy texts from values that have already been created. Please note that all information and texts from the Description field and all fields related to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are always copied, even if you have not entered any information there.
Name: Into this field, enter the name of the characteristic value in the selected language.
Description: Into this field, enter a description of the characteristic value in the selected language. This description will be displayed in your online shop. You can adjust how the description is being displayed via the HTML editor button.
Image: Use the Import button to save an image for the characteristic value. Select the image and click Delete to remove it. Click Export to save the image to your computer.
Pane C: Meta data (SEO)
URL path: The URL path of your characteristic value page usually consists of the name of your characteristic value that you have entered into the field Name. Example: http://your-shop.com/characteristicvaluename.
If you prefer a different path, enter the URL path here. Please note that you do not have to put your shop domain at the start. For example, you could enter "new characteristicvalue" into the field. All non-permitted characters and spaces are automatically converted into hyphens. Your newly created URL would look like this: http://your-shop.com/new-characteristicvalue.
Title tag: Into this field, enter the title tag for your characteristic value page of your online shop.
Meta description: Into this field, enter the meta description of the page of your characteristic value. The meta description is usually displayed on the search results page of search engines.
Google preview: The Google preview below the meta data input fields gives you a live view of the texts you have entered. This allows you to check your entries in real time and optimise them in regard to SEO.
