    Managing users

    Your task/initial situation

You operate an online shop by JTL-Shop and have several employees. You yourself want to have full access to all functions of JTL-Shop as the administrator. However, you only want to give your employees access to some areas, for example content-related areas.

    Opening the user management

    1. In the back end of JTL-Shop, go to Administration > Users & rights > Users to open the Users and rights page.
    2. You will see an overview of all user accounts. By default, only the admin user is available.

    Creating a new user

    1. In the back end of JTL-Shop, go to Administration > Users & rights > Users to open the Users and rights page.
    2. Click Creating a user. The Creating a user page opens.
    1. Fill in all fields.
Note on password security: Use passwords that are 8-14 characters long and consist of a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters. Never store passwords unencrypted. For example, use software like Keepass to store passwords comfortably and encrypted. Create a separate user for each authorised employee. This way you can give people temporary access as well.
    1. Click Save.

You have now created a user. The user is now displayed in the user management.

Detail: If you need more information about the individual input fields, read the guide entry: Detailed description: Creating and editing users.

    Creating a new user group

Users in the back end of JTL-Shop must be assigned to a user group. The default settings include the user group Administrators, which has all access rights. You manage the access rights for the users via the user groups by granting different access rights to the different user groups.

    1. In the back end of JTL-Shop, go to Administration > Users & rights > Users to open the Users and rights page.
    2. Switch to the User groups tab.
    3. Click on the Creating a user group button. The page Creating a user group opens.
    1. Enter a Name and a short Description for the user group.
    2. Activate the check boxes for the areas of the back end of JTL-Shop to which the new user group should have access.
Note: The access control for individual plug-ins is available from JTL-Shop 5.3.
Detail: Use the check box Select all in the respective area to select all options in the back end area. The Select all check box in the lower toolbar selects all permissions on the page.
    1. Click Save to create the user group.

You have successfully created a user group. You can now select your created user groups when you create new users.

    Editing users
