    Managing users

    Your task/initial situation

You have an online shop by JTL and several employees. You yourself want to have full access to all functions of JTL-Shop as the administrator. However, you only want to release some areas to your employees, for example content-relevant parts.

    Opening the user administration

    1. Log in to the back end of JTL-Shop.
    2. Go to the menu item Administration > Users & rights > Users. The user and rights administration of JTL-Shop opens.

All user accounts and their statistics are listed in the user administration overview. If you have not yet created your own users, you will only see the admin user here. You can edit, lock, and delete individual user accounts via the Action column.

    Creating a new user

    1. To create another user, click on the Create user button. This will take you to the Creating a user page.
    2. Fill in all the details. Go to detailed description of all settings.

Additional information on “Password security”: Basically, you should pay attention to a few aspects when it comes to choosing passwords:

    • Use an 8–14 character password consisting of a mixture of letters, numbers, and special characters.
    • Never store passwords unencrypted. For example, you can use software like Keepass to store passwords comfortably and encrypted.
    • Create a separate user for each authorised employee. This way you can also give people temporary access only.

    1. Click Save. The user is now created and is displayed in the user administration.

    Creating a new group

In order to grant users different permissions in the back end of JTL-Shop, users must be assigned to different user groups. The default settings of JTL-Wawi only have the user group Administrators, which has all permissions. To create a new group, proceed as follows:

    1. Switch to the User groups tab on the page Users and rights.
    1. Click on the Create user group button. The page Creating a user group opens.
    2. Enter a Name and a short Description for the user group.
    3. Select the areas of the back end of JTL-Shop to which the new group should have access.
Additional info: Use the check box Select all in the respective panes to select all options in that pane. The Select all check box in the lower toolbar selects all permissions on the page.
    1. Click Save to create the group. It is then available afterwards.

    Editing users

    1. Switch to the User tab on the page Users and rights.
    2. Click on the Edit user button. The Editing a user page opens.
    1. Make the desired changes, e.g. move the user to another user group or add a current staff picture.
    1. Click Save to apply the settings.
