    Creating coupons

    Your task/initial situation

Coupons are an easy way to give your customers a discount on one or more orders. In the following we would like to set up three different coupons for different purposes.

    Coupon types

In JTL-Shop, you will find three different types of coupons, each of which serves a different purpose:

    • Standard coupon: Standard coupons can be restricted to certain customer groups, manufacturers, categories, and items. They discount the value of the goods (total of item line items) by a fixed amount or a percentage (adjustable). Shipping fees or other additional costs are not discounted.
    • Free shipping coupon: With this coupon, there are no shipping costs for an order. The coupon can be limited to certain customer groups, manufacturers, categories, and items or be independent of customer groups and basket content. Furthermore, the coupon may only be valid for certain destination countries (e.g. “GB” only).
    • New customer coupon/Welcome coupon: The new customer or welcome coupon is only valid for new customers, i.e. customers who have not yet created a customer account in JTL-Shop or for unregistered customers whose billing address has not yet been recorded in the system. The new customer coupon automatically applies to the first order. No code needs to be entered.

    Creating a standard coupon

    1. Log in to the back end of JTL-Shop and go to Promotions > Coupons. The Coupon page opens.
    1. In the Standard coupons tab, click the Create standard coupon button. The page Creating a new coupon: Standard coupon opens.
    2. Configure the coupon according to your wishes. To do this, enter at least a name, the displayed name, a value and a validity period. Go to detailed description of all settings.
    3. If necessary, further restrict the coupon using the options Maximum number of claims possible, Limited to SKUs, Categories or Customers.
Please note: The restriction to categories or SKUs relates to the option Apply discount to total basket. If you set this to Yes, all items will be discounted as soon as an item to which the coupon applies is added to the basket. Otherwise, only the selected items and categories will be discounted.
    1. Set the coupon to Active and decide whether the coupon should be sent directly to your customers.
Mass generation of coupons: You can have many different coupon codes generated at once with this option. As you create several identical coupons with this option, it is not possible to inform customers directly about the coupon by email when this option is activated.
    1. Click Save to create the coupon or to trigger the mass generation of coupons.

    Creating a free shipping coupon

With a free shipping coupon, you can waive possible shipping fees for your customers.

The creation is mostly similar to that of a standard coupon.

    1. On the Coupons page, switch to the Free shipping coupon tab.
    2. Click on Create free shipping coupon.
    3. Configure the coupon as you would a standard coupon except for one setting:

Valid for the following destination countries: Here you enter the country abbreviations separated by a “;” for all countries to which the free shipping is to apply, for example: “DE; GB; FR;”.

Creating a new customer coupon/welcome coupon

With a new customer/welcome coupon, you can offer a discount to every customer who orders from you for the first time. This is not done by entering a coupon code but automatically.

    1. On the Coupons page, switch to the New customer coupon/Welcome coupon tab.
    2. Click on Create new customer coupon/Welcome coupon.
    3. Configure the coupon as you would a standard coupon. However, fewer options are available to you.

Forcing the registration of new customers

Normally, new customer/welcome coupons are also valid for unregistered customers. However, you can specify that customers only receive the new customer coupon if they register beforehand.

    1. To do this, open the menu Standard views > Order process in the back end of JTL-Shop. The page Settings: Basket/Checkout opens.
    2. In the Order process section, set the option Allow new customer coupons for unregistered customers to No.
