We are currently still building up the English documentation; not all sections have been translated yet. Please note that there may still be German screenshots or links to German pages even on pages that have already been translated. This guide mostly addresses English speaking users in Germany.
Creating a shipping method
Please note: The options on this page are identical to the page Editing a shipping method.
Detailed description of all options
Pane A: General
Name of shipping method: Internal name for the shipping method.
Displayed name: Specify the name that will be displayed to your customers. You can store one name per language maintained in JTL-Shop.
Sort number: Here you can define where the shipping method is to be displayed. The lower the number you enter, the higher the shipping method will be displayed in the checkout.
Image URL: Here you can enter a URL under which you have stored a logo for the shipping method. This is then shown instead of the displayed name.
Note: Here you can insert a text for each language maintained in JTL-Shop, which will be displayed when selecting the shipping method during the checkout process. This field is useful, for example, to communicate special services such as “express shipping”. The notice text is displayed in the order conclusion (Note (online shop)) or in the order confirmation email (Note (email)).
Min. delivery days: Here you can enter the minimum delivery time for the shipping method.
Max. delivery days: Here you can define the maximum delivery time for the shipping method. Go to “Delivery times in JTL-Shop”.
Free text for delivery time: Here you can insert a text for each language maintained in JTL-Shop, which will be displayed when selecting a shipping method during the checkout process.
Shipping method is available: Here you can specify whether the shipping method should always be offered or only if it is cheapest for the current basket value and shipping address.
Ignore when calculating the cheapest shipping costs: This option ensures that this shipping method is no longer taken into account when calculating the cheapest shipping method. The cheapest shipping method is needed, for example, for the calculation of the cheapest shipping costs or for the delivery time calculation (see Displayed delivery times in JTL shop). If you activate this option for all shipping methods, delivery times will no longer be displayed on the item detail pages.
Item-specific shipping method: Activate this option if there are items in your online shop with item-dependent shipping costs. (See the attributes versandkosten (shipping costs) and versandkosten gestaffelt (scaled shipping costs) under “Controlling JTL-Shop via attributes”.) In such a case, you must create at least one shipping method in which this option is activated and which is usually free of charge. It can then be selected by your customers if they have only items in their basket for which there are individual item-specific shipping costs.
Taxes for shipping costs and threshold for free shipping: Here you specify whether a fix gross price is to be used for the shipping costs. In this case, changes to the VAT due to the destination or customer group are not taken into account for the price and the final price remains the same for the customer. If you select Net, the tax rate will be added to the net shipping cost on the basis of the applicable VAT rates or VAT exemptions for the respective destination country and customer group. This setting also determines whether the gross or net shopping basket value is used for the free-shipping limit.
Send shipping confirmation: Here you specify whether a shipping confirmation should be sent by JTL-Shop for the respective shipping method.
Customer group: Here you can define for which customer groups the shipping method should be available. You can select several customer groups by holding the Ctrl key.
Pane B: Shipping costs
Price scale or Amount: Depending on the selected shipping method, you can either select fixed shipping costs for the shipping method or a scale (all except Standard shipping costs according to destination country). If you enter a scale, the shipping costs change according to the contents of the shopping basket. Click Add another price scale if you need more than one.
Free shipping from: Here you specify whether the shipping method is free of charge over a certain shopping basket value. The free-shipping limit is displayed to the customer as a reference, e.g. in the shopping basket, to tell them which value they must reach for a free shipment. The displayed shipping method is always the one with with the lowest free-shipping limit. If two shipping methods have the same limit, the shipping method with the lower sorting number is displayed.
Capping: Here you specify whether a maximum value is to be set when scaling the shipping charges.
Valid for the following combinations of shipping classes in the basket: Here you can specify for which shipping class and its respective items the shipping method should be available. If you want the shipping method to be available for all shipping classes, click in the box and select All combinations. If you want to restrict the shipping method to certain combinations, click in the box and select the shipping classes for the first combination. Then click Add combination to add a combination of the available shipping classes. Repeat this step until you have created all combinations.
Pane C: Accepted payment methods
Here you can select which payment methods should be available for the shipping method. Use the Amount field to specify whether the payment method can be selected free of charge or whether you want to charge a certain amount.
Pane D: Destination country
Here you specify the destination countries for which the shipping method is to be offered.
