We are currently still building up the English documentation; not all sections have been translated yet. Please note that there may still be German screenshots or links to German pages even on pages that have already been translated. This guide mostly addresses English speaking users in Germany.
Offering media files
Your task/initial situation
Step 1: Uploading the file
Before you can offer the file for download, you must upload the file to a location available online. Ideally, you do this on the web server itself. Theoretically, however, you can also offer any file for download that is available on the Internet.
- Connect to the root directory of JTL-Shop on your web server, e.g. via FTP.
- Navigate to the folder “…/mediafiles”. There you will find the folders Bilder (Images), Musik (Music), Sonstiges (Misc) and Videos.
- Copy your file into one of the subfolders. For our example file we choose the folder Sonstiges.
Step 2: Linking the file in the item master data
- In JTL-Wawi, navigate to the item on whose item detail page the file is to be displayed.
- Open the item master data of the item and switch to the Files tab.
- In the Media files section, click Add. The dialogue Making media file available in the online shop opens.
- Select the Server file option and use the drop-down menu to select the file to be displayed.
- Complete all options in the dialogue box. Do not forget to activate the file for at least one online shop.
In this dialogue box, you can add media files to an item. Media files can be video (flv), audio (mp3), documents (pdf), images (jpg, gift, bmp) or other files. Upload the media files to your server via FTP or indicate an external URL.
Language: Specify the language for which you want to enter the name and description.
Name: Enter a name for the media file here. This is displayed in JTL-Shop as link text for the file.
Description: Enter the description of the media file here. It is displayed in JTL-Shop above the file.
Server file: Here you can select a file from the mediafiles folder on your server. This file must first be transferred to the folder via FTP. After an online shop synchronisation, the file is available in JTL-Wawi. In the drop-down menu Please select, select your online shop and then click Browse. In the dialogue box that opens, select the file that you would like.
URL: If the media file is not on your server, you can enter the URL of the file here.
File format: Specify the format of the media file in the drop-down menu.
Attributes: Enter the value tab under Name in order to rename the tab. Under Value, define the name of the tab in your JTL-Shop in which the PDF file is linked.
Online shops: If the optional Multishop Module is activated (several online shops can be managed by one tenant in JTL-Wawi), it is possible to specify in which online shop the media file is to be displayed. You can also make a file available in several online shops.
Step 3: Setting the visibility in JTL-Shop
In JTL-Shop, you have two standard options for how media files should be displayed.
- In the back end of JTL-Shop, open the option Standard views > Item detail page.
- In the Media files section, you will see the option Show media files.
Yes, as new tabs per media group: There is a separate tab for each type of media.
Yes, under the item description: The media files can be downloaded directly under the description of the item.
No: Media files are generally not displayed in this online shop.
