    Setting up the Epson TSS

    Your task/initial situation

You would like to set up a technical safety system (TSS) for your store. To do this, use one of the JTL-POS compatible devices from Epson.

    Compatible devices

JTL-POS supports the following Epson devices:

    • Epson TM-m30: Receipt printer that can be upgraded with a technical safety system using the separately available Fiscal Upgrade Kit (Fiscal Module). Requires firmware version 1.50 or higher.
    • Epson TM-m30II: Follow-up model of the TM-m30, which can be upgraded with a technical safety system using the separately available Fiscal Upgrade Kit. Requires firmware version 2.07 or higher.
    • Epson TM-m30F: Receipt printer with integrated Fiscal Upgrade Kit. Requires firmware version 1.50 or higher.
    • Epson TM-m30IIF: Follow-up model of the TM-m30F with an integrated Fiscal Upgrade Kit. Requires firmware version 2.07 or higher.
Please note: The fiscal functions are only available for devices with firmware version 1.50 or higher. If your firmware version is lower than 1.50, update to the latest version using the Epson TM Utility App before setting up the printer in JTL-POS. The Android app is available free of charge in the Google Play Store. Additionally, please make sure that you are operating with the latest version of JTL-POS.

The following devices are currently not supported by JTL-POS:

    • Epson TM-T88VI-iHub: Receipt printer with integrated fiscal module. It does not come with a TSS.
    • Epson TM-T88VI-iHub-F: Receipt printer with integrated fiscal module. It does come with a TSS.
Please note: If you are using a device with a Google Chrome operating system, Epson receipt printers can only be connected via LAN.

Step 1: Setting up the printer

Setting up a printer with a TSS is basically the same as setting up one without a TSS. To set up a printer in JTL-POS, please read Connecting printers to JTL-POS.

Please note: When using an Epson TSS, we recommend setting up the receipt printer via the Ethernet interface as this usually provides the most stable and fastest connection.

If you are using a device with Google Chrome OS, you must connect the receipt printer via the Ethernet interface (LAN), otherwise no connection can be made between the cash register and the TSS. Therefore, please ensure that you are operating with the latest version of JTL-POS.

Step 2: Bringing the TSS into operation

First, you need to set up the TSS in JTL-POS. To do this, read the following instructions:

    1. Go to the JTL-POS menu and select Settings > Technical safety system. The Edit Technical Safety System dialogue box will open.
    1. Tap on the pen icon to edit the TSS settings.
    2. In the first part, select the Epson option. The printer selection options will now appear.
    3. Select the same printer that you set up in step one and apply the changes by clicking on Save and restart app. JTL-POS will restart automatically and initialise the connection to the technical safety system.
    1. Once JTL-POS is running again, open the Edit Technical Safety System dialogue box again and tap the pencil icon to continue the set up.
    2. Tap on the, now visible, Connect button.
Please note: To cancel the setup and set up another provider’s TSS, reset the connection by selecting Reset connection.
    1. In the following dialogue, select whether the TSS is being set up for the first time (New TSS) or if it has already been in use with another POS system (TSS currently in use).
    • New TSS: Specify the PUK, the Admin PIN and the Time admin PIN according to the specifications.Confirm your entry with Connect to complete the setup.
    • TSS currently in use: In the following dialogue box, enter the PUK that was assigned to the TSS during the initial setup. Confirm your entry and finish the installation by selecting Continue.
Please note: If you have already linked a TSS and would like to import a new database, you must select and run the Change TSS function instead of the Connect TSS function.
Please note: If you did not assign any PINs or PUKs when you first set up the TSS, please contact your previous POS software provider.
    1. The technical safety system is now operational. This can take a moment.
Attention: Wait until successful setup is confirmed by a receipt with the specified PINs and the PUK along with other important information related to the TSS setup. Keep this information safe, otherwise the TSS will no longer be accessible.

Step 3: Add the TSS information to receipts and business expenses receipts

You must also add the information about the TSS to all receipts and business expenses receipts. Use the following variables to do so:

    • $tse_footer$: Issues the signature of the TSS. The information in the signature comes directly from Epson and cannot be edited. This variable is obligatory.
    • $tse_sn$: TSS serial number. According to the German cash register regulation “Kassensicherungsverordnung” (KassenSichV), receipts must either contain the serial number of the cash register or that of the TSS. This variable is optional.
    • $tse_qr$: Issues the signature of the TSS as a QR code. The QR code can only be added to printed receipts. It will not displayed on receipts sent via email. This variable is optional.
Please note: If the TSS signature QR code is not printed correctly, add a <BR> line break before the $tse_qr$ variable.

Go to Setting up print templates to learn how to add variables to receipts and business expenses receipts.

Connecting multiple POS systems to an already set up Epson TSS

For those that already have a TSS connected to a cash register and would now like to connect this TSS to a new cash register. The use of a LAN interface is a requirement for the multi-register use of a TSS.

    1. On the new cash register, follow steps 2.1 to 2.7 on this page.
Please note: If you only want to use the TSS function and the receipts of the second, new cash register are to be issued at another receipt printer, simply set up another receipt printer and deactivate the receipt printing options for the TSS printer.
    1. In the following dialogue box, indicate that the TSS has already been in use with another POS system.
    2. Then, enter the PUK that was assigned to the TSS during the initial setup.
    3. Confirm your entry to complete the setup. The technical safety device will now be operational. This may take a moment.
