Note: On 1 September 2024, JTL introduced new editions that bundle most of the previous individual services into different packages. In order for you to continue working as smoothly as possible, existing customers were automatically switched to the package configuration that best matched their existing contract. The individual packages differ in terms of limitations and/or range of functions. Therefore, some of the features described in the JTL-Guide may not be available to you as part of your booked JTL edition. You can change your package configuration in your JTL customer account. Find out more about the new editions and packages here. Check our FAQ for frequently asked questions about the product editions.
Creating database backups
Your task/initial situation
You created a complete database in JTL-POS and want to save it. You can either archive the backup or use it to transfer the complete database to a different device.
Backup routine
If you use JTL-POS productively, you should back up the database at regular intervals. We recommend performing a backup at least once a day. Do not save data backups to the internal storage of your device only. Also save it on a different device, e.g. by transferring it to your computer via email. This is the only way to make sure that your data is safe in case of a device failure.
Performing the backup
- In JTL-POS, go to System > Data backup and open the Database dialogue box. You are now in the tab Back up.
- Select a storage location for your backup file.
Download folder: Saves the data backup to the download folder in the internal storage of your device.
SD card/microSD card: Saves the database to the inserted SD card.
Send via email: Sends the backup file as an attachment to the saved email address. For this you must have set up an email account and a recipient address.
- Decide whether to also include the images saved in the database in the backup. Select the option Include images.
Please note: Databases that contain images may be considerably larger than databases without images. If you perform the backup as part of a daily routine, you might want to forgo backing up the images. However, if you want to use the backup to upload it to another device, you should always enable this option.
- Decide whether you want to archive the posting data stored in the database. If you do not want this, select the option Exclude posting data.
- Tap Create database backup. The backup file is now saved to the selected location. JTL-POS restarts automatically.
Please note: Saved databases can then simply be moved to a different storage location, for example to a Google Drive folder.
